Reflections on Pelvic Floor Yoga Teacher Training

At the beginning of May, I completed Leslie Howard's Pelvic Floor Yoga™ Teacher Training in Chicago! ✨

It was a fully engaging experience: mind, body, emotions.

I’ve been reflecting and have landed on three big learnings.

I'm Not Alone

I felt isolated by my challenges for years. After all, we don’t culturally go around talking about our pelvic floors!

I came in with preconceived notions that I was to blame for my health issues.

It was a breath of fresh air to be in a room full of people who shared this thread of pelvic floor struggles.

My painful narrative dissolved through communion.

Strength is in Letting Go

On the first day of the training, I fell apart.

I’ve held on tightly to emotions, painful experiences, and narratives. Bracing and guarding the body from pain is human nature.

As the emotions bubbled up, it felt impossible to let them, which inevitably amplified them.

I learned that simply recognizing an experience is happening and allowing it is enough. That is hard enough to do in and of itself, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.

My Breath is My Compass

Yoga is an energy management technique.

Breath is connected to your energy.

Letting go of the Yoga  pose as the goal and noticing if I can easily breathe helped me connect to my body and not push it past its end ranges.

This can be applied to life: relationships and situations.

I now notice if I can breathe easy (or not) and use the information to make adjustments if I need.

I am so excited to share this with you.
